Soutache braid was originally worn on the M34 and M38 caps (Schiffschen) to designate the army service branch of both Soldiers and Officers. It was also worn on tropical caps. The use of Soutache was discontinued in 1942 but was still worn by soldiers throughout the war. On our last trip to Germany we found some Soutache that is very close to the original braid. Sold in 14cm long pieces and available in these Waffenfarben:
Infantry (White) Artillery (Red) Panzer (Pink) Cavalry (Yellow) Jäger Troops (Light Green) Panzer Grenadier (Green) Pioneer (Black) Feldgendarmerie (Orange) Signals (Lemmon Yellow) Logistics (Medium Blue) Medical (Dark Blue) |
